NFT Evening, April 12th, By Reethu Ravi

The city of Cannes announced on Tuesday that it will be the first European city to turn its iconic landmarks into NFTs. The city will sell these NFTs through an auction. This means, you now have a chance of owning the Boulevard de la Croisette or the Palais des Festivals as NFTs. The city’s move comes as an effort to “invest” in the metaverse

Cannes NFTs: All you need to know

Cannes will turn a total of 11 landmarks into NFTs. This includes, Port Canto, Île Sainte-Marguerite and its Fort Royal, Malmaison, and the Old Port. Some of the others on the list are the Forville market, Le Suquet, Pointe Croisette, and the Georges Méliès campus.

“This operation aims to promote the attractiveness of the Cannes destination through the enhancement and promotion of its historical heritage, vector of identity and authenticity”, the municipality said

To turn the landmarks into NFTs, Cannes is collaborating with a city-based company, Pertimm. An innovative French company, Pertimm has over 20 years of experience in artificial intelligence and e-commerce.

Cannes will auction 10 of the NFTs during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The festival will run from June 20 to 24, 2022. Then, it will giveaway the 11th NFT to a Cannes resident through a raffle. Moreover, the city will donate a portion of the NFT sales to the Cannes Foundation to develop projects to protect the environment.

Across Europe, several initiatives have come up to promote NFTs in recent months. Last month, for instance, the NFT Factory announced its plans to open a 400-square-meter space in Paris in September 2022. A collective of Web3 pioneers, the NFT factory aims to position France as a leader in the Web3 space.
